Settlement Monitoring Rod – Accurate & Durable

Settlement Monitoring Rod

Monitoring ground settlement is a routine part of geotechnical work. Settlement monitoring rods are the physical reference points that make those measurements possible. Kingmach produces these rods for long-term deformation monitoring in dams, tunnels, foundations, and embankments. Our rods are machined to fit standard settlement probes and extensometers, and the rod material, diameter, and segment length can all be adjusted to match your installation depth and environment. Since we make them in-house, lead times stay short and we can ship directly to project sites through our global distribution partners. We also provide calibration fixtures and bench marks if a complete settlement monitoring system is needed. Kingmach provides settlement rods in stainless steel or galvanized steel, with options for protective PVC casing to isolate the rod from surrounding soil friction. The rod tip can be fitted with a magnetic target for use with magnetic settlement probes, or with a mechanical anchor for single-point rod-type extensometers. Installation accessories like grout anchors and telescopic couplings are also available. Projects that require long-term monitoring under aggressive soil conditions often need custom corrosion protection or extra-thick wall tubing – we handle those requests regularly, so call or email with your specifications.

Technical Detail

Configured around process stability, mold life, and long-term uptime.

Kingmach Measurement & Monitoring Technology Co., Ltd. focuses on devices that track ground behavior. Settlement monitoring rods are one of several hundred products we manufacture for geotechnical and structural monitoring. The rod itself is simple in concept – a vertical reference line installed in a borehole or fill – but the details matter when readings are taken over years. Threaded connections can loosen, steel couplings can corrode, and a rod that bends under lateral soil pressure will introduce error. For that reason we double-check thread fit on every coupling and coat threaded joints with anti-seize compound before packing. Stainless steel rods are electropolished in-house to reduce friction inside the guide casing. When a job calls for a rod longer than three meters, we segment it with internally threaded joints that keep the rod's outer surface smooth so it doesn't catch on the borehole liner. We also supply settlement rods for inclinometer casing installations, where the rod sits alongside the casing and provides a fixed datum for settlement measurements. In those setups, the rod material must match the thermal expansion characteristics of the inclinometer string to avoid differential movement in temperature swings. Our engineers can advise on material matches if you send general site conditions. For remote monitoring, magnetic ring targets can be added at specified intervals; these work with Reed switch probes to give depth-settlement profiles. All rods are shipped with protective end caps, and custom packing crates are built for sea freight when needed. Technical support is part of every order. Whether you need help deciding between galvanized and stainless, or advice on grout backfill that won't chemically attack the rod, a geotechnical engineer from our team is available for consultation. We ship from warehouses in Asia, Europe, and North America, so local stock is often possible for standard lengths. If not, production lead time is typically two weeks from drawing approval. Because our plant handles everything from cutting and threading to final QC, we don't depend on third-party suppliers for specialty orders – that keeps the chain short and reliable.

FAQ

Common technical questions

What is a settlement monitoring rod used for?

It serves as a stable reference point for measuring vertical ground movement. Typically installed in a borehole, the rod is anchored at the bottom and extends to the surface, allowing you to measure settlement or heave with dial gauges or settlement probes.

Can Kingmach provide rods longer than standard lengths?

Yes, we can make rods in custom lengths. For depths over three meters, we use threaded coupling segments that maintain a flush outer surface so the rod moves freely inside the casing.

What materials are available for corrosive soil conditions?

Stainless steel is the standard choice for aggressive environments. We also offer galvanized steel for less corrosive sites, and can apply additional coatings if you share soil pH and resistivity data.

Do you include installation accessories with the rod?

We can supply anchor plates, telescopic couplings, grout tubes, and protective PVC casings. Just let us know your installation setup and we'll quote the full package.

How are the rods shipped to avoid damage?

Rods are packed in wooden crates with internal foam supports. Threaded ends have plastic caps and anti-seize coating. For air freight, we also crate rods with extra buffer material.
